2014 Flyboard LI Events Recap
As 2014 was our inaugural year here at Flyboard LI, we wanted to make sure we were part of some local events as well as traveling to Dubai for the 2014 Flyboard World Cup. Showing off how fun and safe flyboarding is for people of all ages (16 and up) by putting on demonstrations has been a mainstay in the flyboard community since its debut four years ago. Like with any new activity that has come along, snowboarding being a good example, the more knowledge people have the more interested they will be to get out and try it; and flyboarding is no different.
Paddle Battle – July 26th, 2014 – Rivehead, NY
Each summer the Peconic River in Riverhead, NY plays host to Paddle Battle, which offers three course lengths for three different disciplines, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing, allowing competitors to show off their stuff at 2.5, 5 and 12 mile distances. To make sure everyone knows he’s not a one-trick pony, our owner and chief pilot, Jimmy Bissett, not only gave an awesome flyboard demonstration that wowed onlookers but took first place in the 18-49 year old male division on the 2.5 mile course atop his stand-up paddle board.
This great mid-summer event helps raise money for two Long Island institutions, The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation (http://www.riverheadfoundation.org/) and The East End Tourism Alliance (http://www.eastendgetaway.com/pages/index.aspx), both which support the businesses and environment of the north and south forks of Long Island.
This year’s battle is already set for July 18th (http://paddlebattleli.com/) and Flyboard LI is proud to be among the many sponsors of this worthwhile event. So come out this summer and put your paddle in the water and find out more about flyboarding, too!
Maritime Festival – September 19th, 2014 – Greenport, NY
As the summer came to a close, Greenport, NY held their annual Maritime Festival which draws over 40,000 people each year and offers a fun experience for the whole family. In addition to the pirate shows, nautical arts and crafts and delicious offerings of local produce, seafood, wine and craft beer, this year attendees also got a jaw-dropping flyboard demonstration from Flyboard LI as a bonus.
As the concept of flyboarding is still new to many, we were happy to be able to be a part of such a long standing and well attended event right in our back yard (http://www.greenportvillage.com/event/maritime-festival/2014-09-21/). We fully expect to have people come fly with us from all over the region and beyond this season but we certainly love having our neighbors get out and make flyboarding a regular activity.
Safe and Fun
Flyboarding may still be the new kid on the water sport block but we want everyone to be comfortable giving it a shot and getting up on a flyboard this summer with us at Flyboard LI. Safety is our number one concern and our certified pilots stress that fact no matter whether you’ve flown with us a dozen times or it’s your first time being lifted out of the water. You can read more about flyboard safety in our previous post.
Don’t be afraid to contact us any time and to keep up on everything we’ll be doing this season, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, too!
